Quality in Online Education: A Case Study

David S. Murphy

Abstract

Much of the research on online education has focused on perceived quality or the quality of the educational experience and not on education quality itself. This case study compared learning outcomes of students enrolled in traditional, on-campus and online course principles of accounting courses. The case study demonstrated that student learning outcomes as measured by course grades were not statistically different. However, a statistically significant difference in student withdrawal rates between the on-campus and online courses were found with more students withdrawing from the on-campus courses. Limitations and suggestions for future research are discussed.
